Brown/ Cream, two piece vase made from stained earthenware, and decorated with **sgraffito. Dimensions: H. 26cm (10 inches)
This proud lady can be placed on your bookcase or window shelf. The head & torso can detach and be filled with water. She wants to display your flowers or succulents and air plants with poise.
The original form was hand sculpted by myself after which a plaster mould was made with it. This particular piece consists of 4 individual plaster moulds. The plaster moulds takes about a week to dry out and to get it ready for the slip casting process.
The slip cast process takes about 1 hour and then left overnight, within the moulds, to dry out. When the casted shapes are revealed it is dipped into another layer of coloured slip to prepare it for Sgraffito. When the clay is leather hard the pattern is scratched into the surface. All patterns are unique to each piece.
The facial and feet features are sculpted and refined afterwards.
This particular vase takes approximately 4.5 hours to make after it comes out of the casting process. It undergoes two kiln firing sessions i.e. one for bisque and one for glazing. The price is an honest reflection of the time it takes to create this pot from start to finish. Handmade with care.
