Green Protea Porcelain Cup 006

£40.00

A handmade porcelain cup decorated with green porcelain slip in sgraffito technique. Sgraffito means to carve into clay to reveal the contrasting green and white colours of the clay. Inspiration for this design comes from walking fynbos routes in the Overberg region, Western Cape, South Africa where my family resides. Proteas can reach a height of over 2 meters creating extraordinary flowery forest like scenery.

Fynbos (/ˈfeɪnbɒs/; Afrikaans pronunciation: [ˈfɛinbos] meaning fine-leaved plants) is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa.

The transparent, glossy glaze is dinnerware and dishwasher safe although handmade cups prefer a hand wash. All my materials are lead free.

Measurements: Height: 9cm (approx. 3.5 in.) Diameter: 12cm (approx. 4.5 in.
