Climbing Protea Porcelain Plate/Platter

A medium sized porcelain platter decorated with Protea flower detail in sgraffito technique. This platter was slab rolled and then moulded on a hump mould. Carefully painted with porcelain slip in Royal Blue stain.

Inspiration for this design comes from walking fynbos routes in the Overberg region, Western Cape, South Africa where my family resides. Proteas can reach a height of over 2 meters creating extraordinary flowery forest like scenery. Please note that there may be slight variations in the design as all items are individually handmade and decorated.

Fynbos (/ˈfeɪnbɒs/; Afrikaans pronunciation: [ˈfɛinbos] meaning fine-leaved plants) is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa.

Glaze is dinnerware and dishwasher safe although handmade ceramics prefer a hand wash. All my materials are lead free.
